Welcome
Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Friends
Welcome to our website, which we are updating!
We hope you find the information useful and encouraging.
Prince William School and 6th Form Centre is on a strenuous journey. Early in 2011 Ofsted visited and judged the school to be satisfactory (Ofsted 2011 is on this site). As the Minister and the Head of Ofsted observe "satisfactory is not good enough".
Ofsted set us a number of goals and we have written a School Development Plan (on this site) with a timeline to address these goals.
We have accepted the challenge and are working to make the difference needed: that is our journey.
But all is not gloom and doom. For we are proud of what we do achieve and are building on a solid foundation. We are proud of the education and opportunities which we offer the young people of Oundle, Thrapston and surrounding villages.
Our students attain above the national results in both GCSE and A level.
In GCSE, 61% of the 2011 students gained 5 A* - C including English and Mathematics. In 2010 it was 62%. This year we hope to exceed the 70% gained in 2009. Of 80 schools in the county our 2011 result ranked 22nd. The national average was 58.9%.
At A level, in 2011 we were particularly pleased with 43.9% of grades in A2 being A* - B, and 39% in AS being A* - B.
We are a school of over 1100 students (including a Sixth Form of 280+ students). We offer a wide curriculum and many opportunities in sports, arts and other clubs.
Our curriculum is under regular review. We know we need to adapt to the changing needs of our students and community. Currently we are reviewing what we offer Year 9 and what we offer students whose post Prince William School journey is into an apprenticeship rather than to a university.
Yet all students want access to a wide range of activities, outside the classroom. Prince William School is justly proud of what is offered. It ranges from a jazz band to rock climbing; dance to Duke of Edinburgh; rugby to skiing. Students here can travel the world, even fly over the Antarctic. We are proud of our life in this community for the last 40 years!
